Earlier this year Talent Trust conducted an Eyes On Production survey for a client, revealing that diverse teams in advertising production felt marginalised, unprepared, and lacked adequate support and teamwork.
Eyes On Production Results
The anonymous survey uncovered several critical gaps:
- No specialist was booked to do Black hair
- The makeup artist did not carry the correct colour tone for Black & Asian talent
- Shoots often ran over, creating payment issues for talent without overtime compensation
Consequences
Diverse team members reported feeling like outsiders despite their inclusion on set. They experienced insufficient preparation and weak team cohesion.
Changes Implemented
Following consultation, the client introduced:
- Enhanced staff training and conscious awareness of diversity on set
- A pre-shoot checklist ensuring all talent and crew received appropriate support
- A private changing room with portable pop-up tent for any location
Second Survey Results
The interventions yielded measurable improvements:
- 30% increase in satisfaction
- Better coordination on set
- Improved preparation
- Reduced wasted time
- Cost savings
- Stronger team engagement
